![]() We’re not the largest conveyancing or landbroker 's office in South Australia by any measure, but we’re equal to the world’s best when it comes to our environment policy. We’ve put the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle into everyday practice and we’re proud to say that together with the support of our customers, we’re making a difference by showing it can be done. When you receive documents from us, one of the first things you’ll notice is we print on both sides of the page. It seems almost insignificant, but it means we only use about half the paper used by other conveyancers in Adelaide. What isn’t quite so obvious is the source of the paper or the printer that produced it. If cost cutting was our motive, we could use imported office/copy paper made in the third world from rainforest timbers under uncertain work and safety conditions and we’d probably save about 50% on the cost of our biggest stationery item each year. However, we’d sooner pay a little more for our paper now than have the environment and our children pick up the tab. As a matter of policy we only use chlorine free paper produced from recycled and sustainable plantation fibre, manufactured in factories where neither the workforce nor the environment are put at risk. We chose Lexmark for our printing needs because their products were the most environmentally friendly available at the time of manufacture. The company has a sound environment policy and a reputation for being serious about its responsibility to the environment and the communities in which it operates. We’ve also made the switch to Green Energy. 100% of the electricity used in our office is sourced from environmentally-friendly renewable sources such as the sun, wind, landfills and biogas rather than fossil fuels like coal, natural gas or oil. Duplex printers & Environmentally-friendly energy do cost a little more in the short term, but the savings to the environment over the course of a year are staggering. If every conveyancer and landbroker in South Australia just switched to double sided printers, and sourced their energy requirements from renewable sources these two actions alone would save an enormous volume of paper (hundreds of thousands of sheets) and hundreds of tonnes of green-house gas emissions.
